It is no longer news that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has left the People’s Democratic Party – the PDP – the party, which provided him the platform to become the Governor of Kano State, Minister of Defence and a Senator.
Kwankwaso, who emerged on Wednesday, last week in Abuja, as the new national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), commands a large number of supporters since 2011 when he was re-elected as governor of the state.
The former Governor, in a press conference held in Abuja, said he left the PDP because of the failure of its leadership and lack of internal democracy. He said, in 2021 he was side lined from the activities of the PDP and waited for the leadership of the party to talk to him for over one year, but got no response.
However, the big question in the public space is not about Kwankwaso’s joining the NNPP, but about his motive behind the defection. Could it be that the senator is out for mischief against the PDP in Kano state, considering that he is not only a stakeholder but also a brand in his own right? Or is it about contesting the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the NNPP?
To address all these issues, is SENATOR RABIU MUSA KWANKWASO, National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Former Governor of Kano State and Former Nigerian Minister of Defence.
