NNPC’s Vision First Programme Provides Free Eye Care To 1,000 People In Lagos

NNPC’s Vision First programme has offered free eye care and healthcare services to over 1,000 individuals in Lagos.

In a bid to enhance community health and well-being, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Ltd has launched the third edition of its Vision First Programme in the Ilaje community, Bariga, Lagos.

This initiative, which is part of NNPC’s broader community-focused healthcare outreach, aims to provide free eye care and general healthcare services to over 1,000 individuals in the area.

The Vision First Programme, a partnership between NNPC Ltd and SNEPCo under the Production Sharing Contract (PSC), is a testament to the corporation’s commitment to its host communities. Since its inception, the programme has made a significant impact, with over 1,853 individuals benefiting from free eye care services.

The latest edition in Lagos, which began in 2022, has already screened 2,000 people, provided 1,199 prescription glasses, administered medication to 1,310 beneficiaries, and facilitated successful procedures for 189 individuals.

Speaking on the significance of the programme, Mr. Bala Wunti, Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (CUIO – NUIMS), who was represented at the event by Mrs. Bunmi Lawson, noted, “Through this programme, we aim to ensure that preventable vision challenges do not hold anyone back. By providing eye screenings, corrective lenses, surgeries, and general healthcare, we’re dedicated to bringing clarity and brighter futures to those who need it most.”

The programme also highlights the importance of proactive health management as attendees were encouraged to protect their vision through regular check-ups, a balanced diet, and adequate rest. The outreach further reinforced the idea that healthy eyes are essential for a brighter future.

The Vision First Programme aligns with the broader goals of the Mallam Mele Kyari-led management team, which is committed to making a positive impact in NNPC Ltd’s host communities.

This was emphasised as Lawson said, “The Vision First Programme embodies the spirit of collaboration and the essence of giving back to the communities where NNPC Ltd operates.”
