Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, has urged the military to continue its campaign against crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa and senior military officers to the NNPC Towers on Tuesday, Kyari highlighted the positive impact of recent security efforts on Nigeria’s crude oil production.
In a press statement by Olufemi Soneye, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Kyari emphasised that the recent surge in production, the highest in three years, is linked to the military’s sustained efforts in protecting critical infrastructure.
He said “I personally call for enhanced and sustained security engagement. This is because we have reached a new peak in production that we haven’t seen in the last three years.
“This is clearly related to the sustained efforts by the armed forces and other security agencies to protect our critical assets, particularly the pipeline infrastructure in specified areas where we are working closely with these agencies. We are already seeing the results transforming into increased production,” Kyari stated.
Kyari praised General Musa and his team for their dedication, particularly in the Niger Delta region, noting that their efforts are vital not only for Nigeria but for the global energy sector.
He expressed confidence in the military’s ability to address security challenges impacting crude oil production.
General Musa, in his remarks, introduced a Monitoring Team tasked with liaising with NNPC and other stakeholders to safeguard the nation’s hydrocarbon assets.
He pledged to maintain and enhance security measures, collaborate with intelligence agencies, private security, state governments, and host communities to improve performance.
“Working in silos won’t give us the best results. I want to assure you that we will collaborate with the necessary stakeholders to achieve our set targets as mandated by Mr. President.”
