The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Nnamdi Kanu is facing fresh charges bordering on alleged terrorism filed before a federal high court in Abuja.
The IPOB leader, who Is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services had been rearraigned in October 2021 on a seven-count charge.
He is standing trial on charges bordering on treasonable felony and will now take his plea in response to a charge on 15 counts, including terrorism in his next court appearance scheduled for today Tuesday January 18th.
Meanwhile the minister of interior Rauf Aregbesola stirred up controversy on Monday after he ordered officers of a correctional facility to kill any intruder attacking the facility.
The minister gave the order while inspecting the Agodi Custodial Centre in Ibadan the Oyo state capital.
He said the officers must make it impossible for anyone to penetrate the facility, stating that any attack on any correctional centre is an attack on the Nigerian state.
Finally, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday called for the need to amend the constitution to increase the educational qualification for election into the office of the president of Nigeria.
The speaker, during his speech at the University of Lagos convocation ceremony noted that raising the minimum academic requirement for the office of the president will help to reform the electoral system.
