The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Transition Committee has taken assertive steps to assume control of the Labour Party (LP) by picketing the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
The move comes amid demands for the current leadership, headed by Julius Abure, to step down, claiming that his tenure has expired.
The party’s headquarters saw a heavy security presence as the NLC Transition Committee demanded that Abure relinquish his position.
Despite the tense situation, Labour Party leader Peter Obi, who was present at the headquarters, expressed optimism about resolving the conflict.
The dispute between the NLC and the Labour Party centres on leadership control, with the NLC insisting on Abure’s resignation and calling for a new national convention to elect new leaders. The situation remains dynamic, with both sides entrenched in their positions.
