The race to the 2023 elections in Nigeria is getting more fascinating with the intrigues playing out among political bigwigs who are positioning themselves ahead of the polls.
At the moment, many politicians have defected to the All Progressives Congress in a bid to align with the ruling party and ride on its coattails.
But unlike the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, the APC is yet to decide on the zoning of national offices at its upcoming convention or even on the presidency.
The ruling party also has to contend with the spectre of a number of lawsuits that have been instituted by its members, challenging the legality of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee headed by the YobeState Governor, MaiMala Buni.
Besides, APC has to find a way of reinventing itself, given its waning popularity among a populace that has experienced a precipitous decline in living standards, widespread insecurity, and rising ethno-religious tensions.
Prince Ebunola Martins, National Coordinator of the Buhari/Osinbajo Support Group during the 2019 elections, discusses the road ahead to 2023 and how the APC can change the public’s perception about the party.
