Germany has agreed to return 1,130 Benin artefacts that were stolen from Nigeria during the colonial era, from as far back as 1897.
What should be a celebration of victory after many years of hard work to retrieve these monumental pieces of history has escalated into rancour between the Oba of Benin and the Edo State Government on who the bonafide custodian should be.
Visual artist Enotie Ogbebor, who is a Trustee of the Legacy Restoration Trust, a member of the steering Committee of the Benin Dialogue group and a visiting Fellow of the Cambridge University in the United Kingdom was on ARISE News Mornimg show on Sunday to speak further on the essence of the Benin Bronzes and who the custodians should be.
