The newly-appointed Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund, in Nigeria, Gifty Addico, met with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, to discuss areas of collaboration and shared assurances for cooperation to actualize the SDGs in Nigeria.
In the meeting which held earlier this week, Addico, accompanied by UNFPA Nigeria senior management, also presented her letter of credence to Tuggar.
Amongst various positions, the UNFPA representative was most recently the Chief of the Commodity Security Branch in the Technical Division of UNFPA HQ in New York, providing strategic direction and technical leadership for UNFPA’s global work in family planning and reproductive health supplies.
She is a Ghanaian national and a medical doctor with several years of experience in strategic leadership in international development and health programme at global and national levels, focusing on developing countries.
As Resident Representative, Addico will provide overall vision and leadership for the work of UNFPA in Nigeria and will be accountable for implementing UNFPA’s country programme and operations.
