Nigerian Singers Omah Lay, Tems Arrive in Lagos After Release from Uganda

Nigerian singers Omah Lay and Tems are back in Nigeria after spending two days in police custody in Uganda for breaching coronavirus rules.

Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the singers and Tems’ manager, Muyiwa Ayoniyi landed at the Murtala Muhammed airport in Lagos on Thursday “at about 12:35 pm local time.”

The musicians, their manager and four others were arrested for breaking Covid-19 rules when they held a concert on Saturday in the Ugandan capital, Kampala. They were subsequently charged for “negligently doing acts likely to spread an infectious disease.”

The Ugandan government dropped the charges on Tuesday and ordered their release.

“We are glad they are finally home,” Dabiri-Erewa tweeted, along with a photo of the stars at the airport.

She thanked Nigeria’s foreign minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, the Nigerian mission in Uganda and the Ugandan government for a quick resolution.

“All’s well that ends well,” she said.
