Nigerian Navy Provides Shelter to Widow of Late Naval Rating Suleiman

The Nigerian Navy, has provided shelter to the widow of a Naval Rating, Suleiman MK, who lost his life in line of duty. 

The Service said his death was a profound tragedy, affecting not only his immediate family but also the Nigerian Navy and the Armed Forces.

A statement by Naval Spokesperson, Cdre Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, also revealed that the fallen hero -Suleiman, was a distinguished personnel of the Nigerian Navy who sacrificed his life in service to the nation under Operation WHIRL STROKE in Niger State on 13 August 2023.

This is as the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), killed no fewer than nine terrorists and recovered significant arms and ammunition during Operation Lake Sanity II in different locations in Nigeria.

Adams-Aliu, said the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla’s vision of having a highly motivated professional naval force capable of shaping the security outcomes within Nigeria’s maritime domain and the littoral, including land based engagements in fulfilment of Nigeria’s national interest, comes alive with the provision of shelter to the widow of deceased rating. 

The statement noted that one significant motivation for naval personnel is assurance of shelter in and out of service.

According to the spokesperson, in the service to a nation, military personnel make extraordinary sacrifices, often paying the ultimate price to safeguard the lives of the citizens and territory of the country.

He said that the bravery of fallen heroes and dedication in the face of battle are the bedrock upon which national security is built upon.

He said: “In fulfilment of his vision, the Chief of the Naval Staff presented a  two Bedroom Semi-Detached Bungalow to the widow of the fallen hero who is also a Leading Seaman at Navy Estate Karshi Abuja. This gesture underscores the importance attached to personnel welfare especially provision of accommodation by the CNS. Certainly, succour has been given to the slain and comfort provided for the family he left behind. The CNS was ably represented by the Director Veteran Affairs, Rear Admiral Mohammed Yakubu  Dahiru who stated that such initiatives will be sustained to ensure that no one is left behind”.

Meanwhile, the the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), in continuation of Operation Lake Sanity II, 

killed nine terrorists and recovered significant arms and ammunition in Sector 3 Nigeria.

A statement by Chief Military Public Information Officer, HQ MNJTF Ndjamena Chad, Lt Col Abubakar Abdullahi, said troops conducted an offensive operation in Yashinti Village, Nganzai Local Government Area (LGA) Borno State Nigeria, adding that during the firefight, four terrorists were neutralized.

“Recovered items include one AK-47 rifle, three AK-47 rifle magazines, and 7 rounds of 7.62mm x 39mm special ammunition. In a separate clearance operations across Gajiram, Marram, Tumtumari, Layinma, Kulunkiya, Gadayi Tumtumari, and Kodayi in Nganzai LGA, troops neutralized four more terrorists attempting to disrupt agricultural activities,” he said. 

The spokesperson said that a 10-year-old boy, Mustapha Bukar, who had been abducted by the terrorists, was rescued and reunited with his family.

MNJTF  troops, Abdullahi said, conducted a night ambush at an identified terrorist crossing point in Kukawa LGA, where one terrorist was neutralized during operation. 

“These operations highlight MNJTF’s ongoing commitment to restoring peace and stability in Lake Chad basin region. The successful neutralization of terrorists and recovery of arms not only weaken the operational capabilities of the insurgents but also provides a sense of safety and confidence to the local communities,” he concluded.
