Nigerian Government’s Claims of Meeting Lecturers’ Demands Untrue, Says ASUU President

The Academic Staff Union of Universities – ASUU – has debunked claims by the Nigerian government that demands of University lecturers have been met, saying the union is looking out for deliverables and not promises.

Professor Abiodun Ogunyemi, the President of ASUU said reports credited to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige that the issues demanded by the university lecturers have been met except one were untrue.
“As for addressing all the issues except one, that’s not correct, how do you address issues? You address issues by producing results. If you have taken steps on one, two, three, four can we see the results on ground?
“Our members have been asking questions. If the government says we have addressed all their issues have the withheld salaries been paid? The EAA allowances that they promised to pay, have they paid? the inauguration of the visitation panels, has that been done? the negotiation has it commenced? So I have mentioned four issues indirectly, which of these have they delivered on.
