In a quest to provide homegrown solutions to economic issues and to create employment opportunities for the youth, the Nigerian Content Development and Management Board (NCDMB) and Enactus Nigeria launched the first ever Science and Technology Innovation Challenge in Nigeria.

During the press conference on Thursday Executive Secretary, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, Engr. Simbi Wabote, said the Science and Technology Innovation Challenge (STIC), initiative is designed to provide an opportunity for Nigerian youths to be engaged, inspired, mentored and be supported to become successful innovators, and to develop their innovative business ideas into sustainable business ventures.
“This is to create home-grown, innovative and technologically driven business solutions to address some of our pressing everyday problems.
He stated that STIC is structured to help undergraduates hone their skills, expose them to best standard practice and provide them up to date professional development.
Mr Michael Ajayi, the Country Director of Enactus Nigeria stated that “The intention of the programme is to challenge undergraduates from all accredited tertiary institutions in Nigeria to utilize their creativity and time to come up with science-based and technology-driven solutions to problems in any sector of the economy, including, but not limited to Agriculture, Education, Health, Climate, Finance, Transportation, Entertainment and Retail.”
He said universities in developed countries played integral roles in innovation, research and development, and adaptation of new technologies.
According to him, accredited Nigerian universities are open to the opportunities.
“STIC is open to all undergraduates in accredited tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The programme will provide a unique platform for students and tertiary institutions to embrace and imbibe the concept of research and development in creating sustainable innovative solution to life’s problems.
“This provides a unique opportunity for Nigerian students with the most innovative and compelling solutions to problems in any sector of the Nigerian economy.’’
He added that the STIC is designed to engage Nigerian youths and create employment opportunities for the young generation.
Speaking on the contest, Ajayi said, STIC was scheduled to run for seven months from the submission of application online to regional competitions and then to the grand finale.
