Nigeria to Reactivate Special Terrorism Courts to Prosecute Insurgents

The Nigerian Minister of Justice and Attorney general of the Federation Abubakar Malami has said the federal government will through the Ministry of Justice’s Complex Case Group, resuscitate the existing special terrorism prosecution courts in the country in a bid to stem the twin trouble of insurgency and insecurity in the country.

Mr Malami also noted that the federal government has taken more measures to tackle insecurity including the prosecution of 400 suspected Boko Haram financiers.

The Nigerian minister made this known in a statement on Thursday by Umar Gwandu, the special assistant on media and public relations to Mr Malami.

The statement read in part, “Malami said the Federal Government is committed to ending insecurity in the country.

“He said in addition to the prosecution of 400 suspected Boko Haram financiers, the government has taken more measures to counter the twin trouble of insurgency and insecurity in the country.

“Malami said very soon, the Federal Government will, through the Federal Ministry of Justice’s Complex Case Group, resuscitate and reinvigorate the existing special terrorism prosecution courts in the country in order to bring to book all those found guilty so as to serve as deterrence to others.”

Mr Malami also urged Muslims as they celebrate Eid to remain law-abiding, have sober reflection and exhibit the imbibed lessons learnt during the period of the Ramadan fast.
