Nigeria: Senate Rejects Amendement of Electoral Act Despite Buhari’s Request to Expunge Section 84(12)

The Senate has thrown out President Muhammadu Buhari’s request for amendment of section 84(12) of the Electoral Act.

The request was thrown out unanimously by the lawmakers during the consideration of the clause that prevents political appointees from contesting for election from party primary level without resigning.

After the Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi, made the lead debate for second reading of the bill, many of the Senators kicked against it and voted no when put to voice votes.
