Nigeria: Principal Suspect in Ataga’s Murder, Six Others Arraigned

The Nigeria Police says it has arraigned Chidinma Ojukwu, the principal suspect in the murder of Michael Usifo Ataga, the Chief Executive Officer of Super Television.

Six other persons who were arrested in connection with the murder were also arraigned before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court, Lagos.

Mr Ataga was murdered in a Short let apartment in the Lekki area of Lagos in June.

Adekunle Ajisebutu, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command in a statement said the arraignment was made “in compliance with the directive of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, the Legal Department of the Lagos State Police Command.”

He said “the suspects were arraigned on charges ranging from murder, conspiracy to commit felony to wit murder, receiving stolen property, attempt to defeat the course of justice, and obstruction of police officers from executing their duties.

“Both the principal suspect and one other have been remanded in prison custody for 30 days pending outcome of DPP advice.”
