Nigeria Police Force Reports Over 30,000 Arrests, Over 1,500 Rescued in 2024

The NPF said it arrested 30,313 suspected criminals, rescued 1,581 kidnap victims, and recovered 1,984 firearms in 2024.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) says it has achieved significant milestones in crime reduction and public safety in 2024, arresting 30,313 suspected criminals and rescuing 1,581 kidnap victims.

These achievements were highlighted by Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), during a strategic meeting with senior officers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by Muyiwa Adejobi, the NPF spokesperson, the IGP commended the dedication and hard work of officers across the country. He noted that the Force had also recovered 1,984 assorted firearms and 23,250 rounds of ammunition over the year.

“In his remarks, the IGP acknowledged the hard work and dedication displayed by police officers throughout the year, particularly the significant accomplishments in crime reduction and community engagement, noting the importance of collaborative efforts in fostering trust between the police and the public,” the statement reads.

Looking ahead, the IGP emphasised the importance of innovation and modern practices in tackling crime.

“The IGP emphasised that the Force will prioritise innovation in technology and operational strategies in 2025, learning from experiences and adapting as we move on,”Egbetokun stated.

He encouraged senior officers to embrace modern tools and progressive practices to strengthen crime prevention and investigative efforts.

As Nigeria approaches the festive season, the NPF has committed to implementing measures to ensure a secure environment.

The IGP reassured citizens that the police would remain vigilant and proactive in preventing criminal activities during this period.

Reiterating the Force’s dedication to community engagement, the IGP stressed the need for stronger collaboration between the police and the public.
