In its efforts to fight the ravaging insecurity bedevilling the North East the Nigerian military has devised fresh strategies by involved retired senior officers in the fight against the insurgency.
Speaking during the northeast interactive session which took place at the officers mess of 23rd battalion Yola, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor, urged the participants to be open and frank in relaying the true security challenges bedevilling the northeast sub-region.
The region has been grappling with more than a decade old insurgency leading to the deaths of thousands of people and the displacement of millions of others.
Irabor who expressed delight for the re-union with old colleagues, expressed optimism that their informed intervention will inject fresh ideas into the fight against Boko Haram insurgency bedevilling the region.
The CDS who poured encomiums on the retired officers said, they are men of honour and unquestionable integrity who have given their best in service to their motherland.
He urged the participants to be forward in telling the Army all their perceptions and proffer ways forward for a lasting solution to the insecurity as they are in the best position to understand the security dynamics of the region.
Irabor urged them to tell the Army its observable lapses in the war against the insurgency for change of strategies.
He also urged them to point aspects in which the military is doing well for improvement, expressing optimism that the retired officers will bring inputs that will add substantial value in the war against insurgency.
Thanking the CDS for organizing the event in Yola, the brigade commander of 23 armoured brigade Yola, Brigadier General Aminu Garba who represented the GOC 3 division Jos, Major General A.I Sani said, the interaction was apt and timely.
He noted that the Army will surely benefit from the wealth of experience of the retired officers to address the raging insecurity bedevilling the region.
Garba noted that the Army need variety of inputs to be able to resolve the lingering insecurity adding that one area where they could get such veritable inputs is from the retired officers.
