The outgoing Nigerian Ambassador to Liberia, Mr. James Dimka, has said the relationship between Nigeria and Liberia has culminated in regional and sub-regional cooperation.
He commended the Liberian government for supporting the re-election of Dr. Akinwumi Adesina as the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) as well as the backing of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who is running for the top seat at World Trade Organisation (WTO).
In a statement he issued after meeting with the Liberian President, Mr. George Weah, on Friday in Monrovia to announce the end of his tenure, the outgoing Ambassador implored Weah “to continue focusing on providing the needed social services to Liberians, stressing that the majority of the electorates expect nothing less.”
The statement which was made available to THISDAY on Monday in Kaduna, said during the meeting, Dimka and Weah discussed long standing relations between the two countries as well as prospects for increased regional cooperation.
The statement said during the meeting, President Weah noted the long history of Nigeria/Liberia relations, especially Nigeria’s efforts towards the resolution of the decade old civil war, stating that Liberians consider Nigerians as brothers.
“He expressed delight at Nigeria’s support for his pro-poor agenda, and assured of Liberia’s commitment to deliver good governance.
“Consequently, President Weah sought increased regional collaboration, assuring that Liberia and Nigeria will continue to work together towards common regional objectives” the statement said.
On his part, “Dimka hailed Liberia as an important partner to Nigeria, which has culminated in regional and sub-regional cooperation.
He thanked the Liberian government “for extending support, under the ECOWAS platform, towards the re-election of Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina as the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) as well as the recent backing given to the election bid of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who is aiming the top seat of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).”
