Nigeria: Labour Suspends Warning Strike in Kaduna

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended it’s five days warning strike in Kaduna State.

National President of NLC Ayuba Wabba in a live broadcast of an emergency meeting on Wednesday, said the suspension became necessary to honour the invitation of the Federal Government on Thursday.

The Nigerian Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige on Wednesday waded into the ongoing face-off between the northwestern Kaduna State government and labour unions by inviting both parties to a reconciliation meeting.

The meeting is scheduled to hold at the Ministry of Labour and Employment in the Nigerian capital, Abuja and will be attended by the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El Rufai and top officials of the State; as well as the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba and top NLC leaders.

“I am therefore constrained in the exercise of my powers as the Minister of Labour and Employment, under the Trade Disputes Act, CAP. T8, Laws of Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2004; to invite you and your top officials to the emergency trade dispute conciliation meeting,” Ngige had said.

It’s been three days since the NLC started a demonstration resulting from the disengagement of more than seven thousand civil servants by the Kaduna State government.

Several sectors of the state’s critical economy have been paralysed following the protests with governor El-Rufai in reaction declaring the NLC president and other leaders wanted for economic sabotage and attacks on public infrastructure.
