Nigeria: Gunmen Attack Imo Governor’s House, Kill Security Guards

There is palpable tension in Omuma in Oru East Local Government Area of Nigeria’s southeastern Imo State where unknown gunmen attacked the country home of the state governor, Hope Uzodinma.
Sources told ARISE News that the gunmen invaded the governor’s village in the early hours of Saturday, killed two security men on duty before setting the house on fire.
The sources also said that one of the security men killed was an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), while cars parked at the compound were also burnt.
Reports also suggest that the state commissioner for information and strategy, Declan Emelumba confirmed the incident and said the security men killed were on duty at the house of the governor.
“It is not true that several security men lost their lives. About two security men on duty at the governor’s house were killed. NSCDC personnel was among the security men who lost their lives during the attack,” he said.
Imo state is fast becoming a hotbed for incessant attacks targeting security agents and public infrastructure.
Gunmen had a few weeks ago razed the police command headquarters in the state and attacked the prison facility, setting free over one thousand five hundred inmates.
