A former president of Nigeria’s Senate Bukola Saraki is presently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) where he is being quizzed over alleged misappropriation of public funds and money laundering.
An official of the commission confirmed this Saturday evening. The EFCC official said, “He honoured an invitation by the commission.”
It is believed that Mr Saraki a former Governor of north-central Kwara state arrived at the commission’s office around 2pm on Saturday.
While the EFCC is accusing Saraki of misappropriation of funds and money laundering during his tenure as governor of Kwara, a federal high court had in May 2019 issued a restraining order to the commission, as well as the Department of State Services (DSS) restricting them from probing Saraki over the allegations.
Saraki’s ordeal is coming days after Tanko Al-Makura, a former governor of Nasarawa State and his wife, were grilled by the EFCC over breach of public trust and misappropriation of funds during his tenure as chief executive of the state.
Sources say Saraki honoured the commission’s invitation shortly after attending a wedding ceremony in Abuja on Saturday.
