Nigeria: Concerns Over Constitutional Role of First Lady in Nigeria ‘Forever Laid to Rest’, APC Leader Tinubu Says

National leader of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu says the performance of the wife of Nigeria’s President Aisha Buhari, has laid to rest forever, concerns over the constitutional role of a First Lady in the country.
One of such performances according to Mr Tinubu is that the country’s first lady has been a voice of conscience calling on politicians to perform for the good of the nation.
Mr Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos state stated this on Thursday at the public presentation of Ms Buhari’s biography, “Aisha Buhari: Being different,” written by Dr Hajo Sani.
Sani is the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women Affairs and Administration.
President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha’s husband, was absent at the occasion as he is presently in the United Kingdom for a routine medical check-up.
“Given the First Lady’s achievements, no one can reasonably question the role of a First Lady any longer,” Tinubu, who also served as the chairman of the occasion said.
He continued: “Remember there were those who argued that the constitution does not assign an official role to the First Lady.
“Because of Dr. Mrs. Aisha Buhari, their concerns have been forever laid to rest.
“The First Lady has played an uplifting, unifying role both in symbol and substance.
“She has been a voice of conscience calling us to be our better selves for the good of the nation and for the betterment of the weakest, most vulnerable among us.
“As such, she has been a strong pillar of support not only to the President but also to the Nigerian people whom they both serve with such patriotic commitment and high purpose.”
Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was also present at the official public presentation of the book.
Also present at the launch are billionaire entrepreneur Mrs. Folorunso Alakija, Secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha represented by the Head of the service, Folashade Esan; Service Chiefs; Private sector leaders; Leadership of the National Assembly.
Others include the Governor of Osun State Governor, Adeboyega Oyetola; the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello; Governor of Yobe state, Mala Buni.
Also, physically in attendance are royal fathers including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi; the Sultan of Sokoto, Mohammadu Sa’ad Abubakar.
