Nigeria: Buhari to Inaugurate VIP Hospital at Presidential Before Leaving Office

Buhari had in 2021 approved a site for the construction of a VIP wing of the State House clinic within the precinct of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The state-of-the-art clinic which will offer medicare for the country’s President, Vice President and other officials of government is expected to be completed before the end of the present administration.

Answering reporters’ questions yesterday, after being led by the State House Permanent Secretary, Tijjani Umar to inaugurate some of the legacy projects in the State House Clinic, located in Asokoro, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha, affirmed that the Multi-billion naira project “will not only be completed but also commissioned before we exit.”

On the ongoing construction of the Presidential Wing of the State House Clinic, designed to be a one-stop shop Medicare services for the President, the Vice President and their families as well as other high-level dignitaries, Mustapha assured that the project would be delivered on schedule before the end of this administration.

He described the projects as being among the front-burner initiatives of the Buhari Administration towards the provision of excellent healthcare services to Nigerians.

The SGF said the projects would collectively help to build a State House Clinic that is people-centred and technology driven, delivering services and motivating the workforce towards addressing some of the healthcare service delivery challenges.

He commended the Permanent Secretary, State House, Tijjani Umar, for the completion and commissioning of the projects, and his tireless effort to raise service delivery standards, not only in the Clinic, but in the State House in general.

The SGF particularly praised the Permanent Secretary, who assumed duty in State House in 2020, for completing the Dental Wing Extension, which had been left uncompleted since 2013, and also embarking on other important projects despite the paucity of funds.

‘‘This building’s unique importance lies in the bold statement about the current administration’s commitment to excellence and ensuring that facilities in the State House Clinic are comparable to the best around the world,’’ he said.

On the molecular laboratory, Mustapha noted that Nigeria has improved on its molecular diagnostic capacity, building over 200 laboratories across the country, compared with only two such facilities that existed in the pre-COVID-19 era.

The duo, joined by the Medical Director, Dr. Munir Yakassai and other officials had inaugurated four legacy projects including Molecular Laboratory, Dental Wing Extension, a remodeled burnt Staff Quarters facilitated through direct labour by the Maintenance Department of the State House and a medical Incinerator donated by the Ecological Office.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary said the State House medical centre was populated by an array of professionals, whose training, qualification and experience have continued to place the clinic as a destination of choice for patients, interns and various medical personnel taking care and mentorship.
