Unknown gunmen have shot and killed Christopher Dega, a senior special assistant to the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom on Security matters.
Mr Dega, a retired assistant inspector-general of police, was killed on Tuesday in Jos, the Plateau state capital.
Details of the incident are still sketchy but Terver Akase, a spokesperson to the governor, confirmed the incident.
Benue state has in recent months witnessed various clashes between farmers and herders leading to the deaths of several citizens.
Governor Ortom had in March accused herdsmen of attempting to kill him following an attack on his convoy at Tyo Mu along Makurdi-Gboko road.
