New Voices, Same Adventures: Rick and Morty’s Latest Season Premieres with Fresh Voice Actors

The highly anticipated new season of Rick and Morty has finally dropped, putting an end to the speculation that had gripped fans regarding the voices of the show’s iconic characters. For the first time, mad scientist Rick and his grandson Morty are being portrayed by new actors, giving the beloved characters a fresh sound that has sparked a wave of reactions among the show’s dedicated following.

The release of the season trailer last month left fans puzzled, as they tried to decipher whose voices were behind the animated duo. The mystery was unveiled, revealing that Ian Cardoni has taken on the role of Rick, while Harry Belden lends his voice to Morty. Cardoni, known for his work voicing promos for wrestling giant WWE and Apple TV, brings a unique tone to the character of Rick. On the other hand, Belden, recognized for his role in medical drama Chicago Med, adds a new dimension to Morty’s character.

In a surprising turn, the season premiere, aired on Sunday night, featured a guest appearance by none other than Hugh Jackman, the renowned actor known for his portrayal of X-Men’s Wolverine. Jackman appeared as himself, aiding Rick and Morty in their mission to remove an unwanted house guest named Poopy.

The change in the cast came after co-creator Justin Roiland, who previously voiced both Rick and Morty, was replaced. Roiland was let go following accusations of domestic violence, although the charges against him were later dropped. The show’s creators, keen on ensuring minimal disruption to the fans’ viewing experience, undertook an extensive search for new voice actors.

Scott Marder, who led the quest for the new voices, stated, “The goal was always to try to preserve the viewing experience and give them [viewers] the same show they’ve had every other season.” The creators aimed for a seamless transition, allowing fans to continue enjoying the series without a noticeable shift in the characters’ essence.

Fan reactions to the new voices have been diverse, ranging from excitement to apprehension. One fan took to Twitter to express anticipation for the rest of Season 7, stating, “The new voices of Rick and Morty sound pretty convincing.” However, another fan found the new voices somewhat “weird,” reflecting the varied responses circulating on social media.

As Rick and Morty’s latest season unfolds with its fresh voice actors and unexpected guest appearances, fans eagerly anticipate the adventures that lie ahead, curious to see how the beloved characters evolve under the new vocal interpretations.
