New ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy In Development By ‘X-Men’ Producer Simon Kinberg

Disney is developing a new “Star Wars” trilogy, which will explore a fresh storyline

A fresh “Star Wars” film trilogy, written by “X-Men” producer Simon Kinberg, is in early development stages at Walt Disney Co., according to a source familiar with the project. Kinberg, known for co-creating the animated series “Star Wars Rebels,” will produce the new films alongside Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

Unlike previous installments, this trilogy will not continue the Skywalker saga but instead will explore a new storyline, marking a significant departure from the familiar legacy. Specific details about the plot or timeline have not yet been disclosed.

This announcement comes as Disney, which has held off on releasing “Star Wars” films in theaters since 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker”, works on expanding the universe for audiences worldwide. Since George Lucas launched the first “Star Wars” film in 1977, the franchise has generated over $5 billion in global ticket sales, securing its place as one of the most successful franchises in cinema history.

The new trilogy joins Disney’s slate of “Star Wars” projects, including “The Mandalorian and Grogu”, a film based on the popular Disney+ series, set to hit theaters in May 2026. As Disney moves forward with these fresh cinematic ventures, fans can look forward to an exciting era of “Star Wars” storytelling.
