Netflix Secures Streaming Rights for FIFA Women’s World Cup in Landmark Deal

Netflix has secured a deal to stream the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031.

Netflix has obtained exclusive US streaming rights to the FIFA Women’s World Cup for 2027 and 2031, marking a historic first as the tournament debuts on a streaming platform.

The 2027 edition will run from June 24 to July 25 in Brazil, featuring 32 teams competing across 12 cities. The host country for the 2031 event is yet to be announced.

In addition to broadcasting the matches, Netflix plans to enhance its coverage with studio shows, commentary, and entertainment provided by top-tier talent.

Leading up to the tournaments, the platform will produce exclusive documentaries highlighting prominent players, their journeys, and the global growth of women’s football.

Reflecting on the sport’s expansion, the 2023 Women’s World Cup saw Spain claim its first title by defeating England 1-0, showcasing the increasing interest in women’s football worldwide.

Netflix’s partnership with FIFA aligns with its growing portfolio of live programming, which includes notable sports and entertainment events.

“Our record-breaking success with Amanda Serrano vs. Katie Taylor demonstrated the massive appetite for women’s sports and live programming,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria.

“I’ve seen the fandom for the FIFA Women’s World Cup grow tremendously — from the electric atmosphere in France in 2019, and most recently, the incredible energy across Australia and New Zealand in 2023. Bringing this iconic tournament to Netflix is not just about streaming matches — it’s about celebrating the players, the culture, and the passion driving the global rise of women’s sports.”

FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the agreement as a milestone, stating,

“This is a landmark moment for sports media rights. As a marquee brand and FIFA’s new long-term partner, Netflix has shown a very strong level of commitment to growing women’s football. This agreement sends a strong message about the real value of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the global women’s game. FIFA and Netflix partnering together makes this a truly historic day for broadcasting and for women’s football.”

The deal includes telecasts in multiple languages, including English and Spanish. With upcoming documentaries on players like Vinícius Júnior and José Mourinho, Netflix continues to position itself as a leading platform for sports fans.
