Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis has been placed under investigation as prosecutors in Italy once again beam their search light on the deal that took Victor Osimhen to Napoli three years ago.
Osimhen linked up with the current Serie A champions from Ligue 1 club Lille in a well celebrated move in the summer of 2020.
The Nigeria international was officially sold to Napoli for €70m plus over €10m in bonuses, but €20m of that was made up of four players.
These were veteran goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis and three youth team players, Luigi Liguori, Claudio Manzi and Ciro Palmieri.
According to several sources in Italy including La Repubblica and Sky Sport, Rome Prosecutor has put De Laurentiis under investigation for alleged false accounting.
Italy’s Financial Police, Guardia Di Finanza have reportedly gathered documents concerning the deal.
It would be recalled that Napoli were cleared of allegations in a sporting trial concerning inflated capital gains in April 2022.
Osimhen spent just one season at Lille before moving to Napoli.
The 24-year-old scored 13 goals in 27 league appearances for Les Dogues and was crowned the club’s Player of the Season.
The 27-year-old played a key role in Napoli’s Scudetto success last season, the Partenopei’s first in 33 years.
The forward scored 26 goals in 32 league appearances.
He has already been nominated for 2023 Men’s Ballon d’Or and FIFA Best award.
