The Olomu kingdom is in a celebratory mood after their recently crowned king, HRM Macaulay Ogbgbedia II, received the Staff of Office from the state government of the Ughelli south Local Government of Delta State.
The staff was presented by Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, who was represented by his Deputy, Monday Onyeme.
Onyeme said events like these are vital as the traditional institutions contribute to the cultural and socio-economic development of the country.
“Traditional Institutions are indispensable partners in the socio-economic and cultural development of the state.
“The event of today marks the confirmation of the various traditional rights and processes which commemorates the ascension to the throne of this historic kingdom.
“I am happy about the peace and love that prevailed and I attended all the processes.”
King Ogbgbedia is the thirteenth king of the Olomu kingdom whose ascension comes after the passage of the oldest monarch in the country.
The monarch who retired from the Nigerian police force in the 90s expressed gratitude to the people and the Government of Delta State, promising to carry out his duties diligently.
Some members of the kingdom also expressed confidence in the abilities of the new king.
