President Bola Tinubu has directed the Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun to analyse the numbers and propose a new national minimum wage figure to present to labour unions by Wednesday.
This comes after a meeting at the Presidential Villa with the government’s negotiating team.
The delegation, led by Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, included Edun, Budget Minister Atiku Bagudu, Deputy Labour Minister Nkiruka Onyejocha, and Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris.
Also present at the meeting,were the Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited Mele Kyari, and Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila.
The meeting follows the government’s promise on Monday night to increase the national minimum wage above 60,000 Naira, as well as the suspension of the industrial action by organised labour.
The strike grounded economic activities across the country and plunged the nation into darkness.
