Michael Gambon, Prof. Dumbledore in Harry Potter Movies, Passes Away

Veteran actor Michael Gambon, famous for his role as Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts in the “Harry Potter” movie, has passed away at the age of 82.

In a statement issued by his publicist, his family said, “We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon.

“Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside.

“We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and thank you for your messages of support and love.”

He initiated his professional journey as a founding member of the Royal National Theatre in London and subsequently took on prominent roles in various Shakespearean productions like “Othello” and “Hamlet.”

After the passing of Richard Harris in 2003, Sir Michael assumed the character of Dumbledore, who served as the headmaster of the magical school Hogwarts, in the immensely popular Harry Potter film series adapted from J.K. Rowling’s books.

He received Emmy Award nominations in 2010 for his portrayal of Mr. Woodhouse in an adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Emma” and in 2002 for his depiction of President Lyndon B. Johnson in “Path to War.”

He additionally garnered a Tony Award nomination in 1997 for his performance in David Hare’s play “Skylight” and was knighted in 1998 in recognition of his contributions to the entertainment sector

Sir Michael had a career spanning about five decades, during which he contributed to television, cinema, stage, and radio, earning four Bafta awards.
