Mexican Authorities Find Three Bodies While Searching For Missing Tourists

Mexican authorities have discovered three bodies in an area of Baja California, where two Australian brothers and an American went missing while on a surfing holiday.

The bodies were found in the town of Santo Tomas, according to CBS News, although they have not yet been identified.

Jake, 30, and Callum Robinson, 33, from Perth, along with American Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, vanished on April 27 near the popular tourist town of Ensenada.

Mexican police have questioned a woman and two men in connection with the disappearance. Forensic tests will be conducted to identify the bodies, with arrest warrants issued for the crime of forced disappearance.

Earlier abandoned tents, a burnt white pickup truck, and a phone linked to the missing tourists were discovered. A search team, including firefighters, had been scouring a remote cliff area for any signs of the Robinson brothers and Mr. Rhoad.

The FBI, in a statement to CBS News, stated that while they cannot comment on specifics, they are diligently assessing every lead and will pursue credible information rigorously.

The FBI said, “If credible, we will pursue those leads with rigour. We are in contact with the family of the US citizen, and we are steadfast with our international law enforcement partners in finding answers.”

Baja California, known for its violent drug gang activity, is a popular destination for surfers, especially from nearby California.

The US State Department stated they are closely monitoring the situation, while Australia’s foreign ministry confirmed their embassy in Mexico is collaborating with local authorities and the Australian Federal Police.
