At least 94 person have been confirmed dead following a petrol tanker explosion that occurred along the Kano-Hadejia expressway in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Police public relations Officer of the State, Lawal Shiisu in a voice note sent to journalists confirmed the unfortunate event that has also left over 50 people injured.
The police authorities said the fire was ignited after some residents of the community tried to swoop petrol from the tanker that fell down.
The flame was said to spread rapidly, causing extensive damage and overwhelming emergency services in the area.
Rescue and recovery operations are actively underway according to the police authorities.
Some of the survival of the inferno are currently receiving treatment at the Ringim general hospital.
