Man Killed by Own Explosives in Attempted Attack on Brazil’s Supreme Court

A man attempting to bomb Brazil’s Supreme Court was killed by his own explosives in Brasília.

A man attempting to attack the Supreme Court was reportedly killed by his own explosives, on Wednesday evening in Brazil’s capital, Brasília,

Following two explosions, the man was found dead outside the building. Eyewitnesses reported seeing him throw what seemed to be explosives before the blasts occurred. Fortunately, no one else was injured in the incident, according to officials.

The area has been secured, and a bomb disposal robot is being used to examine the man’s body. Police have discovered a timer, suggesting the possibility of additional explosive devices.

Jorge Messias, the country’s solicitor general, condemned the incident as a deliberate attack and promised a thorough investigation into the explosions.

He stated on X, “I strongly condemn the attacks against the Supreme court and the lower house.

“We must know the motivation behind the attacks, and to re-establish peace and safety as fast as possible.”

Images from news agencies showed the deceased man lying outside the court as officers cordoned off the area.

Police spokesman Maj Raphael van der Broocke, stated, “The Military Police robot is searching the body of the individual who carried out the attack, and a timer was identified, and it is possibly linked to other explosives.

“Other explosives have already been identified around the body.

“We need to be very careful to carry out this search and, if necessary, detonate these explosives at the site to prevent them from causing a chain reaction.”

Brasília’s Deputy Governor Celina Leão informed reporters that the explosion occurred after a man tried to enter the court but was unsuccessful. She advised that parliament remain closed on Thursday while investigations continued.

Earlier, the Supreme Court issued a statement saying the building had been evacuated as a precaution after explosions were heard. Justices had just concluded a plenary session and were swiftly evacuated safely.

The court is in the Plaza de los Tres Poderes, opposite the presidential offices. Local media reported that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had left the area shortly before the explosions.
