Man Arrested with Knife In Abuja as Protests Over Nigeria’s Cost of Living Crisis Intensify

Abuja Police have arrested a man with a knife during the #EndBadGovernance protests in Abuja.

Police operatives have arrested a young man clutching a knife near the National Stadium in Abuja amid ongoing protests against Nigeria’s worst cost of living crisis in decades. The demonstrations, themed #EndBadGovernance and ’10 Days of Rage,’ have seen growing participation across the country.

The arrested man, dressed in a wine and white T-shirt, appeared terrified as police questioned him about the knife.

The police have also been using teargas canisters to disperse protesters in the area.

The protests come in response to rising inflation in Nigeria, which has surged since President Bola Tinubu’s administration ended the petrol subsidy regime and floated the nation’s currency in 2023.

Despite attempts by President Tinubu and some ministers to dissuade the protesters from marching nationwide, the demonstrations continue to gain momentum, reflecting widespread discontent with the government’s handling of the economic crisis.
