Life After Abuse Foundation Launches Helpline on International Men’s Day

Amid societal stereotypes and stigmas, men are frequently discouraged from expressing vulnerabilities or seeking help.

In recognition of International Men’s Day, Life After Abuse Foundation (LAAF) announces the launch of a dedicated men’s support helpline. This initiative aims to provide free, specialized medical, legal, and psychosocial support to men facing various challenges due to abuse, trauma, or related issues.

The Men’s Support Helpline, operational from 9am to 5pm, 7 days a week, will offer a safe and confidential space for men in need of assistance. Recognizing the often unspoken struggles faced by men, this helpline is a crucial step towards breaking the silence and encouraging individuals to seek the support they deserve.

Amid societal stereotypes and stigmas, men are frequently discouraged from expressing vulnerabilities or seeking help. In alignment with this year’s International Men’s Day theme of ‘Zero Male Suicide’, the helpline endeavours to create a supportive environment where men can comfortably seek assistance without judgement.

The support provided through the helpline includes but is not limited to:

– Specialized medical assistance

– Legal guidance and resources

– Psychosocial counselling and emotional support

Founder and CEO of Life After Abuse Foundation, Halima Layeni, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating, “It’s crucial to recognize that men too can be victims of abuse and trauma and face challenges in seeking help. With the launch of the Men’s Support Helpline, we aim to break the barriers that prevent men from accessing support services.

“Men benefit significantly from seeking mental health support, experiencing improved well-being, enhanced relationships, better physical health, increased self-awareness, and stress management skills.

“Our goal is to create a safe space where men feel empowered to seek assistance and begin their journey towards healing and recovery.”

This initiative aligns with LAAF’s commitment to advocating for survivors of abuse, irrespective of gender, and fostering a society where everyone feels empowered to seek support without fear or shame.
