Libyan Minister Al-Lafi Meets Syrian Officials in Damascus to Discuss Security, Military Cooperation

Libyan Minister Al-Lafi has visited Damascus for high-level talks with Syrian officials on military and security cooperation.

The Libyan Minister of State for Communications and Political Affairs, Walid Al-Lafi, arrived in Damascus on Saturday for discussions with newly appointed Syrian officials.

At the Al-Shaab Palace, Minister Al-Lafi engaged in talks with Ahmad al-Sharaa, leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

Following the meeting, Al-Lafi informed reporters that the discussions with the Syrian officials primarily focused on military and security issues pertinent to both nations.

“It was an important meeting, its importance is because of the timing and the cross files between Libya and Syria especially the military and security files and the consequences of the major events that took place in Syria on the region,” said Walid Al-Lafi.

In the wake of the overthrow of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government, numerous foreign and Arab officials have been visiting Syria, committing to cooperation and support for the country’s reconstruction and the peaceful transition of power.
