86 Lebanese, 14 Britons, and 4 Americans were among the 286 foreign nationals conferred with the status of Nigerian citizenship by President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday at the banquet hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Of these deserving persons who signed to be Nigerians, 208 were conferred citizenship status by naturalization, while the remaining 78 by registration.

While urging them to endeavour to make positive contributions to the different communities they reside, President Buhari urged the new citizens to abide by the ideals of the nation.
He said the ceremony is a constitutional requirement aimed at removing the tag of “statelessness” on every bonafide citizen of the country.

Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, said Thursday’s conferment ceremony is the first to take place since 2018.

According to him, the awardees are people who came from every part of the world, who saw the good in Nigeria.
