In a significant move toward fostering a more resilient and sustainable future, the Lagos State Office of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), in collaboration with the Lagos State Environmental Agency and the Lagos State Safety Commission, has announced the inaugural Lagos Sustainability Summit.
The summit is scheduled to take place on September 12th at the Eko Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, beginning at 10 a.m.
Oreoluwa Finnih, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, while speaking to newsmen on Thursday, highlighted the significance of this summit.
She said “This summit embodies our collective commitment to building a resilient and sustainable Lagos, which is the beacon of sustainable development for our nation and abroad”.
She emphasised that the event is not just a dialogue but a call to decisive action, aimed at shaping the future of Lagos.
The theme of the summit, “Building a Resilient and Sustainable Lagos,” Finnih stressed, serves as a call to action for all stakeholders. She said it will guide the efforts to forge a city that is not only prosperous but also equitable and environmentally sound.
“The Lagos Sustainability Summit stands as a testament to our collective resolve. It is a landmark event born from a collaborative effort of key agencies, the Lagos State Office of Sustainable Development Goals, the Lagos State Environmental Agency, and the Lagos State Safety Commission. It is a testament to SDG 17,” Finnih added, referencing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal focused on partnerships for achieving the goals.
“Together, we have come to the realization that the future we aspire to have, is not just a dream but it is our responsibility. A responsibility that demands our unwavering commitment and our innovative ideas. Our gathering today is not just about dialogues but to take decisive actions that will shape the future of our dear city Lagos. Our theme; building a resilient and sustainable Lagos serves as a call to action.” She continued
She further explained that the Lagos Sustainability Summit is poised to be a pivotal event in the state’s ongoing efforts to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable development. With a strong emphasis on innovation, community engagement, and ethical practices, noting that the summit is expected to set a new standard for sustainability in Lagos and beyond.
