The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has applauded Nigerian internet sensation and skit makers Ikorodu Bois for earning international recognition with their creativity as he hosted them in his office on Monday.
In a tweet, the governor celebrated the young filmmakers and their global acclaim.
“Today, I welcomed generational filmmaking talent @IkoroduB, whose creativity has put them and Ikorodu on the global map of international platforms like Netflix, earned them a nomination at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards and put their faces on billboards in Times Square, NY,” Sanwo-Olu wrote.
He also highlighted the state’s commitment to developing creative talents.
“As a State, we are proud of them and I thank them for visiting me today. We are committed to developing creative talent in Lagos as we continue to serve as the premier destination for musical, art and creative talent generation in Africa.”
The group, made up of brothers Muiz Sanni (15), Malik Sanni (10) and their cousin, 13-year-old Fawas are known for recreating multi-million-dollar music videos, Hollywood film trailers and epic pictures with household items.
They garnered international acclaim after replicating the trailer of the Netflix Spanish drama series, ‘Money Heist’ and the action thriller, ‘Extraction’. They were subsequently invited to the world premiere of the film. The streaming giant also gifted the group with high-tech cameras, Boom microphones, tripods, voice recorders and an Apple iMac computer.
They were recently featured on Steve Harvey’s TV show, on billboards at Times Square in New York and have been nominated for this year’s Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards under the favourite African social media star category.
