Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez delivered powerful performances at Wednesday’s inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Gaga sang the national anthem, while Lopez performed a medley of patriotic songs that included “This Land Is Your Land.”
The stirring performance came one day after Gaga sent her fans a message of hope to usher in the new administration.
“I pray tomorrow will be a day of peace for all Americans,” Gaga tweeted. “A day for love, not hatred. A day for acceptance not fear. A day for dreaming of our future joy as a country. A dream that is non-violent, a dream that provides safety for our souls. Love, from the Capitol.”
Gaga joins a long, storied history of artists who’ve performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” at presidential inaugurations, including Rev. Jesse Jackson’s daughter Santita Jackson (Bill Clinton, 1993, 1997), Beyoncé (Barack Obama, 2013) and America’s Got Talent runner-up Jackie Evancho (Donald Trump).
Meanwhile, leading up the event, Jennifer Lopez shared a picture with National Guard troops near the Capitol, which she shared on Instagram.
“What an honor to spend a few moments with these brave men and women. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. I honor you today and everyday. Tomorrow I sing for you and all Americans,” she captioned it.
Garth Brooks and John Legend also performed as part of the celebration.
