Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) in the 2023 election, Senator Rabiu Kwankwanso, has said that the new NNPP Logo symbolises the party’s beliefs in education, peace, and long-term struggle.
Kwankwanso said this during an interview with ARISE NEWS on Friday.
He expressed his satisfaction with the new logo, stating, “We thank God that on the 12th of July 2024, we were able to launch our amended constitution, our colours, logo, and flag, which we believe is the best for the party. I’m sure our supporters will be very happy.”
Explaining the need for a new logo, Kwankwaso highlighted issues with the previous design, which featured a basket of fruits. “We didn’t know we had some issues until during the election when we went to the polls, believing that we could identify the logos and I couldn’t identify it, and this created a lot of problems for our voters across the country. We resolved that it was necessary for us to change that logo because of difficulty in colour separation, and that’s how the change started,” he said.
The new logo, as described by Kwankwaso, is a circular design with red at the top, bottom, and centre. It features white in the centre, symbolizing peace, and a book with a graduation cap, representing education.
“The idea of putting education is certainly to reflect our beliefs in NNPP. We believe education is key. At the centre is white, which is peace; we believe there must be peace for progress. The red symbolizes the struggle over the years. We believe in supporting the masses,” he explained.
Reflecting on his tenure before 2015 as the governor of Kano state he stated, “During my time, before I left in 2015, there was no child as far as we knew that was not given an opportunity to go to school.”
Addressing internal divisions within the party, Kwankwaso acknowledged the inevitability of disagreements in politics. “In politics, you always have one disagreement or the other. We have some few leaders in the party who simply did not understand,” he said.
Regarding his relationship with former governor of Kano state and current APC chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Kwankwaso said, “I’m not the governor of Kano. I don’t have an enemy or anybody to fight, especially in the politics of Kano. Ganduje was my deputy governor and my special advisor in the Ministry of Defence. Everybody is free to do what they want to do. It’s in the past.”
In regards to the 2027 presidential election, he remained non-committal, stating, “I’ve been in the system for years. Based on all my experience, what we tell people is to go into politics as a politician, not a contestant. You can contest the election. NNPP is open to everybody to join. I can’t tell you anything. I’m a politician; we are building the party, and when the time comes, we’ll sit down as a party and decide on what to do.”
On NNPP’s potential merger talks with other opposition parties, Kwankwaso stated that “for now, we are concentrated on building the party.”
