Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has announced the appointment of Onogwu Muhammed, a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and a crisis communication expert, as Special Adviser on Public Relations.
This comes as the Election Petition Tribunal on Monday, upheld the victory of Governor Ododo at gubernatorial election held on November 12, 2023, dismissing Social Democratic Party’s candidate, Murtala Ajaka’s Petition.
INEC had declared Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the election amidst allegations of rigging and vote-buying.
Muhammed previously served as the Chief Press Secretary to Ododo’s predecessor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, where he garnered recognition by winning the 2023 National Spokesperson award for crisis communication management.
His tenure was marked by effective communication strategies that bolstered the administration’s image during challenging times.
In a statement released on Monday, Muhammed’s impressive resume and extensive experience in public relations was highlighted, noting that he is well-equipped to offer strategic counsel to manage the public image and communications of both the Governor and the state government.
His role will encompass the enhancement of the Governor’s reputation and the effective communication of policies, initiatives, and responses to various stakeholders, including the media, public, and other government officials.
Muhammed’s responsibilities will also span several critical areas, including Strategic Communication Planning, Media Relations, Crisis Management, Public Engagement, Stakeholder Management, Reputation Management, Internal Communications, and Social Media Management.
His expertise is expected to be instrumental in shaping public narratives, building trust with constituents, and ensuring that the Governor’s communication efforts are effective, transparent, and aligned with the administration’s goals.
