Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello has appealed to Nigerians not to blow the current situation in the country out of proportion, stressing that the democratic setting must not be derailed despite challenges.
Bello made this appeal while speaking at a symposium organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists Kogi State Council to X-ray the seven+ years of the Kogi State government under Yahaya Bello in Lokoja on Thursday.
“Let us seize this opportunity to appeal to all Nigerians that we should not fall into the trap of the few individuals who want to plunge the country into chaos. The election will hold. Thank God Mr President broadcast today and assured Nigerians that there would be an election that would be secured.
“Let me assure that what we are enjoying today is safe, though may not be adequate. Let us not destroy the greatest achievement we have recorded under this democracy. We must not be misguided.”
He stated that the situation is just temporary and in a few days, we will have a new president-elect and other elected officers.
“The situation will stabilise very soon,” the governor stated.
He said he was very confident that the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress Bola Ahmed Tinubu would win the election in a landslide.
On his achievement so far, Bello said that “we came, we saw we conquered.”
He commended the Chairman of Kogi State NUJ Comrade Momohjimoh Aseiza for organising the symposium and lauded the National President of NUJ, Comrade Iziguzo.
Similarly, ahead of the 2023 general elections in the country, the National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Comrade Chris Iziguzo has admonished the working journalists to help set Nigeria on fire, before, during and after elections.
Iziguzor made this appeal while speaking at the NUJ Symposium with the theme A peep into Yahaya Bello’s seven years as governor of Kogi State and the implications for the future administration at Edge Drive hotel in Lokoja on Thursday.
The advice came off the heel of the present socicolouringing the citizenry in the face, stating that there are frustrations, anger in the land and llolotllott of tension every now.
He, therefore, appealed to journalists to be mindful. of what report or writing warning that anything that would not remove poverty from the downtrodden masses, journalists must not write to escalate any problem in any part of the country.
He warned that the journalists should not use their press to set the country on fire, noting that as media practitioners we do not have another country we will call our own.
Iziguzo commended governor Yahaya Bello’s administration for the laudable projects executed in the past seven years, adding that notable among them.is the first class Okene Reference Hospital was commendable.
In his remarks the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kogi State Council, Comrade Momohjimoh Adeiza loaded governor Bello, saying that his administration has done well in Kogi and people should join hands with him to do more.
The Guest speaker, Emmanuel Ojonugwa Okoliko, therefore, concluded that having peeped into various achievements of Governor Yahaya Bello in the past seven years, the future administration should build on the achievement so far.
