Kenyan President William Ruto has dissolved his entire cabinet following weeks of intense anti-government protests. This decisive action leaves only the Deputy President and the Prime Cabinet Secretary in their positions.
Ruto, during a nationwide address on Thursday, said “I have decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General of the Cabinet of Kenya except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Affairs and of course the Office of the Deputy President is not affected in any way,”
This announcement comes on the heels of escalating public demonstrations that have gripped the nation for the past three weeks.
He also stated that he will engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations and other Kenyans at large.
This is with the aim of setting up a broad base government that will assist him in accelerating the necessary, urgent and irreversible implementation of the program that the state has.
This includes dealing with the burden of debt, raising domestic resources, expanding job opportunities, eliminating wastage and unnecessary duplication of a multiplicity of government agencies and ending corruption. This, Ruto said, will consequently make the government lean, inexpensive, effective and efficient
“During this process, the operations of government will continue uninterrupted under the guidance of Principal Secretaries and other relevant officials,” he added.
