Kenyan Police Offer Reward For Capture Of Escaped Serial Murder Suspect

Kenyan police have announced a “significant cash reward” for information leading to the capture of Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, a serial murder suspect who escaped from custody on Tuesday. Khalusha fled alongside 12 other suspects from Gigiri Police Station in Nairobi, in an escape that has sparked outrage across the country.

Eight police officers have been suspended, and five have been charged in court for their alleged involvement in the jailbreak, which authorities believe was aided by insiders. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) issued a wanted notice on Thursday, appealing to the public for information that could lead to Khalusha’s re-arrest.

The DCI has not disclosed the exact amount of the reward but stressed that credible information leading to Khalusha’s capture would be rewarded. The public has been urged to report any tips confidentially through a police hotline or at any police station nationwide.

Khalusha was arrested last month after the discovery of the mutilated bodies of nine women at a disused quarry in Nairobi. The victims, aged between 18 and 30, were killed in a similar manner, according to police reports. The 42-year-old suspect reportedly confessed to the murders of 42 women, including his wife, since 2022. However, his lawyer claims that Khalusha was tortured into making the confession.

Described by police as a “psychopathic serial killer,” Khalusha’s escape has shocked many Kenyans. An incident report indicates that the 13 suspects broke free by cutting through a wire mesh roof and scaling a perimeter wall. The Gigiri Police Station, from which they escaped, is situated 10km (six miles) from Nairobi’s city centre, in an area that hosts the regional headquarters of the United Nations and several embassies.
