Speaking with Arise News in an interview on Tuesday, a member of the Governing Council Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), Ken Ife expressed support for the decision of the Bola Tinubu administration to implement the Oronsaye report.
Ife described this decision as a major move in reducing the cost of governance, adding that the work has just started. “I think it is a bold step,” he said.
With regards to implementation, he said that the move requires funding.
“In terms of the implementation, it costs money. Whatever you want to do, if you want to fight corruption,it costs money. If you want to merge and retire people, it costs money to retire them.
“So, we have to always be conscious of the fact that anything we want to do, costs money. We have to be setting money aside to be able to deal with the ramifications. All of these would still have to be funded.”
He further expressed that the overall objective is to reduce the cost of governance, with a second goal being revenue generation.
“Overall objective is to reduce the cost of governance. The second part is about revenue. What contributions are they making to revenue? Because if they are fit for the purpose, they should be able to generate revenue. And if they’re generating, are we actually seeing that money. We believe that at least half of the money that the government needs, could actually come from these MDAs.”
