Kantamanto Market Hit by Devastating Fire, Emergency Crews Deployed

A fire at Kantamanto Market in Accra destroyed over 100 shops, prompting investigations into the cause.

A fire erupted on Thursday at Kantamanto Market, a prominent commercial centre in Accra, Ghana’s capital, resulting in significant property damage. 

Witnesses described desperate attempts by traders and bystanders to combat the inferno as it rapidly engulfed the market, reportedly destroying more than 100 shops. 

The Ghana National Fire Service disclosed that the blaze began in the early hours of the morning, necessitating the deployment of 13 fire engines to bring the situation under control. 

A spokesperson for the fire service confirmed that the flames had been contained and announced that investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the fire. 

No injuries have been reported at this time, and the origin of the blaze remains undetermined.
