Kano Government Recoups Over N27 Million from Ghost Workers in Payroll Crackdown

Kano State government recovers over N27 million from 247 ghost workers, including retirees and deceased individuals, for March payroll.

In a crackdown on payroll anomalies, the Kano State Government has recouped more than N27 million paid out to 247 ghost workers, including those who had retired or passed away, for the month of March 2025.

The Director public enlightenment at the office of the Secretary to the State Government Musa Tanko,said those involved in the fraudulent activity will be held fully accountable in accordance with the law of the land.

According to him, the irregularity was discovered during a validation exercise conducted by the Pay Parade Committee set up by the state government.

“The government remains resolute in its commitment to purge the payroll system of irregularities and hold perpetrators accountable.he said

He therefore stated that’ The committee will commence its operations shortly, involving all stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive review of the payroll system.”

He added ” investigation will be conducted to determine the extent of the apparent fraud and identify those involved.”

Tanko, further explained that the amount was promptly recovered by the committee and returned to the Local Government Treasury..
