Kagame Calls for Inclusive Global Response in Tackling Pandemic

Rwandan President Paul Kagame took part in a virtual session of the World Economic Forum (WEF) being held this week to examine the most effective responses to mass unemployment in the wake of the pandemic and features of a new social contract.

President Paul Kagame of Rwanda said the pandemic has highlighted how interconnected countries are, regardless of their prosperity and development.

Kagame called for an inclusive, global response, “otherwise existing inequalities among countries will only grow wider and the working conditions in the developing countries will degrade.”

The Rwandan president underlined that many informal, small entrepreneurs – mostly women – faced exclusion from social protections and urged these problems to be addressed.

WEF organisers are having virtual gatherings with world political and economic leaders after the COVID-19 pandemic doused plans for the annual in-person event in Davos, Switzerland.

The forum, which discuses ways to build a better future, expects to hold its annual meeting in person in May in Singapore.
